Do I need to have any qualifications to write?

Zenith Magazine is reserved for youth ages 14-18. As long as you’re within that age range, you’re good to go! No outstanding writing skills necessary.

How long can my review be?

Good question! Reviews can range in length from around 300 to 1000 words. Try to stay within these bounds when you’re writing, but it’s quite flexible, and it can vary depending on what you’re reviewing.

Long-form stories are generally upwards of 1000 words, with an upper limit at around 2000 words.

What’s the deal with the “Long-form/Essay” section?

“Long-form/Essay” is a section reserved for longer stories about books, movies, music, food, or TV shows. There’s a lot of flexibility here—stories can range from analysis of a literary genre to a discussion of how a book differs from its movie/TV counterpart, to how we’ve changed the way we’ve looked at a certain piece of media over time. There should be some sort of argument or thesis—this isn’t newswriting—but the choice of that argument or thesis is left up to you.
